Pay & Tax

  • Minimum Wage Requirements: The minimum monthly wage in Georgia is GEL 20 and has remained unchanged for 30 years. However, the average minimum wage is approximately GEL 1300.
  • Individual Income Tax: Personal income tax is a flat rate of 20%. Use our salary calculator to tally up what you will be paying the employees here
  • Payroll Cost: Employer costs generally amount to 2% of the employee’s salary. These figures are estimates and for informational purposes only. For precise details, contact our Sales team.
  • Accumulated Pension Program: Employers contribute 2.0% to the Accumulated Pension Program for each employee.
  • Overtime Pay & Maximum Hours: Standard working hours are 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Overtime pay is usually paid between 125% and 150% of the regular hourly rate for hours exceeding the standard work hours specified in the employment agreement.

Pregnancy and Childbirth Leave

  • Financial Assistance: Maternity leave is funded by the state with a cap of GEL 1,000 during paid leave. If company policy allows, employers may subsidise parental leave if they so wish. 
  • Notification: Employees must inform employers 2 weeks in advance before taking childcare leave.
  • Paid Leave: 126 calendar days, extendable to 143 days in case of complications or multiple births.
  • Childcare Leave: Up to 604 days, with 57 paid days for complications or twin births.
  • Distribution: Employees can split their paid leave between pregnancy and childbirth.
  • Unpaid Leave: Up to 12 weeks per year until the child turns five.
  • Application: Managed by the LEPL Social Service Agency with necessary documentation.

Sick Leave: Employees are entitled to up to 40 consecutive calendar days or a total of 60 calendar days within a six-month period. Sick leave is compensated at 100% of the employee’s regular salary, paid by the employer. Both full-time and part-time employees are eligible for this benefit. Proper medical documentation is required to validate the leave.

Termination

Termination Requirements: Terminations in Georgia must adhere to specific regulations and the rules of the employee’s country. The off-boarding process is managed by the Employer, involving primary stakeholders, and may include various fees and steps depending on the case.

Termination Conditions: No at-will termination outside the probation period, it must be for just cause. Compliant terminations include: 

  • Voluntary resignation by the employee
  • Unilateral termination by the employer based on probation period, objective grounds or disciplinary dismissal
  • Contract expiration

Notice Period:

  • Termination with cause: 30 days
  • Resignation: 30 days (or as agreed between the parties)
  • Probation period: No notice required (can terminate within 1 day)

Severance for Employees: Terminated employees in Georgia are entitled to severance pay if they have passed their probation period, equivalent to one month of the basic salary.

Statutory time off

Paid time off (PTO) full-time and part-time employees are entitled to 24 working days of paid time off annually, accruing at a rate of 2 days per month. Employees begin accruing PTO from their start date and can take it immediately, though the employer can reject vacation requests without reason if made before 11 months of service.

Onboarding & Offboarding

Onboarding: Onboarding takes 3 business days. The documents must be completed 1 day before the start date.

Offboarding: Offboarding requires additional time as it involves calculating all final payments, ensuring the return of company-issued technology in proper working condition, completing necessary paperwork, and handling all legal compliance requirements.

Contracts & Probation

Employment Contract Details: Employment contracts can be in both Georgian or English, written, and signed by both parties. We at OutsourcePlus generate employment agreements in both languages. A contract must include:

  • Start date and employment duration
  • Working hours and rest periods
  • Position and job description
  • Paid and unpaid leave details, and leave procedures
  • Termination procedures for both employer and employee

Probation Period: Probation periods are optional, with a standard duration of 90 days and a maximum of 6 months. The employee cannot have more than 1 probation period per employer, meaning if they change roles or leave and are rehired (and they’ve already completed the probation period), they cannot have another probation period.
